Staff member Logan with a solid Lake Monduran barra.
Well folks, our scribe is currently on holidays for a couple of weeks, no doubt harassing the Lake Mondy barra. So instead of the usual fishing report we thought we'd share some photos from some great recent captures. We've got a mixture of photos from our staff that have the barra bug big time at the moment, some happy snaps from staff member Josh's recent trip to Cape York and a collection of images from our local guides with some very happy clients on board. Enjoy!
Lake Monduran - Back to it's former glory
Staff member Logan and shop regular Harry Rails recently made a trip to Lake Monduran and were rewarded for their efforts. It's pretty exciting to see the average size of fish increasing so quickly and the numbers of fish being caught. Gone are the days of running 30lb braid, 60lb leader and standard hooks, it's time to step up to 50lb braid, 80lb (or stronger) leader and ensure all of your split rings and hooks are up to the task.
Stretch goes walkabout
Some of you may noticed that staff member Josh has been MIA the last few weeks, well he and his lovely bride Rachel just got back from 3 weeks exploring Cape York and Far North Queensland. Here's a few happy snaps from their trip.
Rachel's first barra! She then went on to catch another 4
Young Jacko took Josh and Rachel for a barra session in the Wenlock River. Plenty of you will know Jacko and his dad Mark "Bargy" Bargenquast, well they now call Weipa home and run guided sport fishing and fly fishing charters from there. Check out Fish's Fly & Sportfishing if you're heading up that way.
Stretch's first salty on fly.
Time for an upgrade! This fish put on a great aerial display fishing a mangrove lined flat in 500mm of water. The Scott Sector 8wt still had enough punch to turn over bulky flies in the wind and wrestle the barra out of the mangroves. Cheers to Adam & Sam Cass for a very memorable afternoon on the water.
Saratoga Jardini - different to the Leichardti's that we catch down here.
Stretch even gave Rachel a quick fly casting lesson and within 15 minutes she'd caught herself an archer fish on a topwater cicada pattern.
Fraser Guided Fishing
Tri from Fraser Guided Fishing has been getting into the spring time action with plenty of trevally and mac tuna on the cards to keep clients entertained.
Hervey Bay Fly & Sportfishing
Andrew and the team from Hervey Bay Fly & Sportfishing have been busy keeping smiles on clients dials. Young gun local guide Kurt Rowlands has been chasing a few bass and barra on fly at Lake Lenthalls on his days off as well.
